On a recent Saturday, my husband, Mark, and I visitied a small town in Central Florida called Mt. Dora. Situated 184 feet above sea level, it is tall enough to be considered a mount in Florida.
With tongue planted firmly in cheek, gift shop owners have commissioned tee-shirts that read, "I climbed Mt. Dora, 184 feet elevation). Bragging rights for those of us who have visited.
After browsing the gift shops and lingering in the bookstore, we stopped for an ice cream cone on our way out of town.
But first, we stood on the shore of Lake Dora. There we saw a two-story, fully operational lighthouse. Every night, it broadcasts a beam of light to guide boats across the lake.
In the same way our heavenly Father has giving us light to guide our path. In Psalm 119: 105 reads, "Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path." God uses his word, the Bible, to guide us through life.
Jesus called himself the light of the world. In John 8:12, he said, Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”
When we follow Jesus, we have the light that leads to life. We don't have to walk in the darkness anymore.
